We use different types of onions for different dishes. But have you ever wondered if other than the taste do they have any national difference? here is a small table on the difference between red & white onions.
Red Onions:

A better source of fiber
Rich in Calcium
Low in calorie
Contains a good amount of iron
a balance of astringency and sweet in flavour
Papery layers

White Onions:

Lower source of fiber
Lacks calcium
Low in calorie
Lack of iron
Has a sharper and pungent flavour
Layers are slightly less tender and meaty
